What we've heard
The waterfront was viewed as an environmental resource, a recreational asset, and an economic driver simultaneously. Water-based recreation — hiking, kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing — came up throughout the survey. Point Breeze specifically was identified as a place with potential to become a stronger destination.
Suggestions from residents included:
- Family-oriented businesses at Point Breeze
- Food and entertainment on the waterfront
- Festivals, water events, and community programming
- Additional pedestrian/bicycle access to waterfront parks
- Complementary businesses that support both residents and visitors
Balance
Residents also emphasized preserving access to waterfront areas while maintaining rural and agricultural identity. The plan needs to balance investment in waterfront destinations with protection of the character residents value.
