What is a comprehensive plan?

"A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range policy document designed to guide the future physical, economic, and social development of Carlton. Serving as the Town's blueprint for the next 20 to 30 years, it establishes a shared community vision and identifies the goals, strategies, and actions needed to achieve the vision."

How is this site connected to the Town?

The Town of Carlton’s comprehensive plan materials — including the workshop handouts — link to PlanCarlton.org as a place to learn more and share input. The site itself is built and maintained by residents.

The plan is being written by the Town’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee with consulting support from Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council (G/FLRPC). Official notices, legal documents, and public hearings come from the Town. For questions about the process itself, contact Jenny Loewenstein at G/FLRPC.

Why this site exists

Because the official process — weeknight workshops, printed handouts, comment cards — leaves a lot of people out. This site is an experiment in whether we can open up the plan enough that everyone has a real chance to read it, react to it, and shape it, regardless of whether they can make it to the Rec Hall on a weeknight.

How do you use my input?

Everything posted publicly here is public. Comments, submissions, and forum threads are curated and shared with the Steering Committee as community input. Comments here do not replace submitting official comments to the Town at public hearings — they supplement them. We don't sell data, don't run ads, and don't track you beyond what's necessary to keep the site working.

You can comment without an account — just add your name. To keep spam out, we store a one-way scrambled fingerprint of your internet connection (not your actual IP address) with each post that's made without an account, and limit how often one connection can post.
